José Feliu de la Peña Pons has an extensive academic background which mainly emphasizes in training in GIS. He is an expert on GIS and Remote Sensing (University of the Balearic Islands (UIB)) and he has a specialization in programming and development of GIS by Universitat Oberta de Catalunya ( UOC). He is also an expert in waste management and is currently enrolled in the Master of Analysis, Planning and Management in Coastal Areas.

At work, he has an extensive curriculum in Geographic Information Systems, also including topics such as urban planificacion, environment, mobility and transport.

His research interests are mainly oriented to the GIS and its application. This has included issues of accessibility by public transport, data management, creating webservices, among other fields. He has published like co-authored articles about agro-farming management, accessibility and geomorphology.
